Who We Are

We believe great outdoor spaces start with a thoughtful process. From the first conversation to the final walkthrough, we focus on clear communication, careful planning, and quality craftsmanship. We take a hands-on approach to every project, treating each home as if it were our own and ensuring the experience is just as solid as the finished build.

My name is Tom Witter, and I build decks.
I started Witter Construction Inc. in 2005 after earning a degree in Construction Management from Central Michigan University. By 2010, I chose to focus exclusively on decks and outdoor structures—allowing us to deliver a higher level of craftsmanship through true specialization.
We work with small, dedicated crews who take pride in their work and care deeply about the outcome of every project. Because for us, it’s not just about building a deck—it’s about building you a better day off.

Our Process

Step 1 - Reach Out

Tell us about your project using our contact form. We review every inquiry personally and will follow up by the next business day.
Step 2 - On Site Consultation

We’ll schedule a free on-site meeting to review your space. During this visit, we take measurements and photos of your property and discuss your goals, timeline, and any site considerations. This ensures we fully understand your vision and can provide an accurate proposal.
Step 3 - Design & Planning

Using the information from our site visit, we develop a detailed plan for your project, including layout, materials, and features. Every step is tracked in JobTread, our digital project portal, so you can view designs, documents, and updates anytime.
Step 4 - Proposal & Scheduling

You’ll receive a clear proposal outlining scope and pricing. Once approved, your project is scheduled, and materials are prepared. JobTread keeps everything organized in one place, so you always know what’s coming next.
Step 5 - Build Phase

Our skilled crew brings the plan to life with care and precision. We communicate throughout the process and update JobTread with progress photos, notes, and milestones.
Step 6 - Final Walkthrough

We walk through your completed project with you to ensure everything meets your expectations. Any final notes or warranty info are documented in JobTread for easy reference.

We’re based in Troy, MI, and primarily serve Oakland County, Macomb County, and nearby areas, but we’re happy to discuss projects in other locations as well.
We primarily use TimberTech products for composite and PVC decking because of their superior durability, beauty, and sustainability. While we have experience with other brands like Trex, we prefer TimberTech for its long-lasting quality and performance. We also work with traditional wood decking when it suits the design and budget of the project.
We are a Platinum Level TimberTech Contractor, which provides our clients with the longest TimberTech warranties available. We are also a certified Westbury Master Pro, ensuring expert installation and the highest quality standards for all decking projects.
We back all projects with a 5-year workmanship warranty, and TimberTech products come with their manufacturer warranties—the longest available for Platinum Level contractors.
Pricing is all-inclusive: labor, materials, permits (if needed), and site prep. The only changes are if you request additional features.
